As part of SXSW “Energizing Health” Health Equity Conference, Cambia Health Foundation President, Peggy Maguire, speaks with three Sojourns® Scholars about the opportunities for working together towards an inclusive approach that makes palliative care more understandable and accessible for people and families across the age spectrum. 

The panelists, respective leaders in their fields, share information about the innovative solutions and strategies they are driving to ensure every person with serious illness and their caregiver lives well and address how best to remove barriers to improve access to quality care.

Ab Brody PhD, Associate Professor of Nursing and Medicine, Associate Director of the Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing -  developed online resource that provides innovative training, education, and mentoring, to home health and hospice teams, giving them advanced expertise in the complexities of care for older adults   Debra Lotstein MD, Director, Comfort and Palliative Care Division, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles - oversees the expanding clinical, educational and research activities of the hospital’s interdisciplinary program which seeks to promote services to achieve the highest possible quality of life for children with complex conditions and their families.

Dulce M. Cruz-Oliver, MD, Assistant Professor of the Palliative Program at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine - obtained a National Cancer Institute Diversity Supplement, entitled, Telenovela: A Learning Experience in Hospice Research.  This education intervention approach improves attitudes toward palliative care because participants who wanted to help their loved ones realized that they need to accept professional help and were made aware of the services available.
